To be honest, I am not someone who especially admires people over others, less those I do not  know. However, there was a movie that has marked me especially; "Silence" by Ingmar  Bergman. This director was born on July 14, 1918, his father was a Lutheran priest.  His work was strongly influenced by punishment, guilt, and sin. He himself affirmed that the punishments in his childhood were something totally natural that was not  questioned. Sometimes they were just blows, but over time they became more complex  to quite sophisticated forms. What I like about his work, especially about the film that he named above, is his way of  approaching conflicts, which are always heavy, terrible and distressing, but also have a  metaphysical level that turn into unattainable subtleties. In my opinion a work makes me  fall in love when it becomes immeasurable, and in my opinion he has succeeded.

How Can Your Major Make the World a Better Place

Imagen
In my opinion, the power of cinema lies in being able to develop a subjectivation device that works as an  empathy machine. The power of cinema lies in delivering experiences of differents worlds and being  able to have faith in them. Cinema delivers values and atrocities that allow us to get closer to life and imagination. However, nowadays cinema and art in general are alienating. Art takes us away from the world,  instead of bringing us closer. If we see murders or rapes we are not disturbed because it is a fiction.  The work in its condition of representation loses all its vital condition, causing us to become more insensitive  to what we experience. The cinema that i am most interested in  and the one that I think can be a contribution to the world is  the one that does not alienate us due to its ethical, aesthetic and political approaches. This cinema  must give us the faith that what we are seeing is real. For this reason, I...

The Story of a Picture

Imagen
In this photography I was three years old. I'm next to my aunt, although she can't tell herself well,  due to a cup of coffee that has spilled into the photo.  It's strange because I don't remember what  his face was like back then, I don't know if she was smiling or  she was sad. As far as I'm concerned,  I clearly don't look happy, I look a little uncomfortable and angry.  This  picture is strange because in the background you can see two ladies with a kind of  medical apron, however, this contrasts with the toy car I'm sitting in. I have no idea who took  this picture, possibly someone unknown took it out as a favor and now it has gone into oblivion.  This image conveys to me an enormous anxiety, I cannot recognize myself. The spots that  have spoiled the photography look like a bacterium that is devouring my aunt and my memory.  After all, only my body remains frozen in an uncomfortable pose and with an indifferent l...

A Meal or Food You Really Like

Imagen
I am not the type of person who has favorite things, however, there are meals that I prepare regularly.  One of them is chickpea curry. It has a great nutritional value, a rich flavor and it fills your stomach.  All of this makes it a recurring meal in my life   Because I m vegan , I need to seek out various nutrients to compensate and balance my diet. Chickpea  provides a considerable amount of protein, fiber, calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium, and  vitamins A, E, C and B3  These chickpeas become even tastier and more nutritious when cooked with a sauce of garlic, onion,  pepper, tomato, ginger and coconut cream. This in turn provides a good amount of vitamins,  electrolytes and antioxidants. The dressings that I generally use are ground pepper, turmeric, a little  cumin, coriander seeds, salt and a touch of balsamic vinegar. the latter highlights the flavours thanks  to its acidity and sweetness. If you do not have balsamic ...

My Favorite Piece of Technology

Imagen
My favorite piece of technology is a MIDI controller called M-Audio Code49. This device  is a type of  synthesizer that works along a computer program. The beauty of this instrument is that it can be  adapted to different software, thus achieving a much wider range of sounds, being able to equalize  them as I want.   I love making music, and experimenting with different sounds and musical genres. I don't close  myself to anything and this keyboard allows me to do basically what I want, from electronic,  shoegaze or concrete music.   As a filmmaking student, I need to be consta...

Why did I choose my major?

My passion for cinema did not come in the most usual way. Most people who study it have a  desire to communicate and express themselves. In my case it was not like that. When I was  a child I wanted to be a physicist, and then in a resounding change, I studied social sciences  and read a lot of philosophy. In this period, I became interested in the mechanisms that allow us to think differently, find vanishing points, allowing events to occur and be able to de-automate  perception. At the same time that I had these concerns, I also began to experiment a lot in a  personal way. I sought to get out of my safe space and explore the world, allowing the world  to speak to me. It was during this period that I fell in love with cinema, as a device of  subjectivation and as a machine for empathy. Cinema is capable of showing other ways of life,  other ways of time, new values, new hierarchies and alongside the actor’s face human  challen...

Who Am I ?

.       Hello, my name is Andrés Larenas Salvador and I´m pisces. I was born in Quillota, but I don't  really feel I belong anywhere because all my life I have wandered from one place to another.  Some time after I was born, we lived in Santiago. When I was three we went to live in Belgium  because my father won a scholarship to do a master's degree in urbanism at Louvain la  Neuve ´s university. My first language was French, although I did a couple of Spanish classes  to be able to handle both languages.   When I was eleven, we returned to Chile. My return to this country was no less chaotic. I went  through four different schools and lived in six houses in different neighborhoods. This  instability also affected my vocation. At school I was in a mathematical elective and I wanted  to be a physicist, however,...
